| About Naturopathic Medicine |
||||||
| Naturopathic medicine is more than just using herbs in place of drugs. It is a system that views the person as a whole—body, mind, emotions, and spirit all interweave to make each of us a unique, dynamic entity. Naturopathic medicine encompasses a wide variety of therapeutic modalities including botanical medicine, nutrition, exercise, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, and physical medicine. These modalities are brought together in a simple philosophical framework: First . . . do no harm. This tenet is held in common by physicians of all types. Doctor as teacher. As a doctor of naturopathic medicine, I share with you the information you need in order to make choices that will optimize your health. Remove the cause of illness. By removing the cause of disease, we clear the path to allow healing to take place. Treat the whole person. Symptoms are not the problem, they are a map to the underlying imbalance. By treating the whole person and not just the symptoms, the disease is removed and the symptoms disappear. Prevention. By optimizing health, we can generally avoid both chronic and acute disease. The healing power of nature. Life is a miracle. The same vital force that animates us and keeps us healthy can also restore health. The vital force of other living things, such as herbs and foods, can support our life force to restore health. While everyone can benefit from Natural Medicine, those who are helped the most are those who want to take an active role in their own health and well- being. Because Naturopathic Medicine works by normalizing physiology, it is highly effective even at treating conditions that have been labeled “no known cause” or “no known cure.” These include fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, endocrine disorders, autism, arthritis, and autoimmune diseases. It is also beneficial in treating the most common yet devastating diseases of our times--heart disease and cancer. And, of course, Naturopathic Medicine is at its best in maintaining health and preventing disease. |
